Space Art.

Postby lylejk on Sat Jan 17, 2009 9:55 pm

Been doing a lot of these of late and don't believe a topic has been added for this.

I created the worlds using Mathmap Sphere filter and my ruby texture (both diamondworld and ruby moon). I used GIMP's Supernova filter for the Planet's sun (added lens flare effect for the sun too) as well as some of the lighting effects on the planet and moon. I also added sparkles as needed. Borrowed this image for the backdrop. Created the galaxy using a raindrop brush and GIMP's Whirl and Pinch filter. I then duplicated the layer (raindrops have transparencies) as needed and made one of the layer properties set to dissolve for the star effect. Added Supernova again for the Galaxy's Quasar. Look forward to seeing some of your results. :)

Below is my result that I call Diamond World just outside of the Crystalline Galaxy

Just continuing to support this thread. Found this cool site of planet textures which can be used to create planets. I created the Jupiter with one on their site using Mathmap Sphere creator preset. Cool stuff. :)

Dyson Sphere

Just playing with Amazing Circle (using VM's Steel Basket filter) and created a seamless texture with that result and then used Flaming Pear's Ornament filter before Sphere mapping it.

The melting of Snowball Earth

Thanks Phyllis. Still having fun with this form of art. Hope others will join in soon. It's fun even though you pretty much have to create everything. I do like the HSV noise technique for creating starry backgrounds (I use to use a space scene for this; now I just make my own). I add RGB noise to the mix to add a glint of color to the starry background (a few other things too). :)

Looks cool to me Kath. Another explanation of how the universe was created. As valid as the big bang is to me. ;)

Flaming Pear - Glitterato for background, Lunar Cell for planet, Solar Cell for moon and sun. Some Photoshop tweaks. :chomp:

I really do like Flaming Pear's filters BK (some of the few paid for filters that I have and use are from Flaming Pear and you know how cheap I am; lol). I knew about Lunar Cell, but don't do enough of these type renders to get it. Like the stars too by the way. :)
