Ken, interesting photo.....Joy

This is a new easy tutorial (written by, Isabel...Retouching Forum).

Dupe...background layer.
Add Threshold adjustment layer above duped layer...
Play with slider to get the right amount of BW, this will vary with each image.

On the Threshold layer:
Use a large soft paint brush with black paint to bring back the color.
Flattened image and increased the saturation, if needed.

Vignette edges

Last step: Add a Plug-in filter called 'Rough Pastel' set on Sandstone (played with settings there were no instrutions)....this filter is new, to me.

Aniso and smart blur and poster edges and cutout, some of which were repeated. Obviously some hue/sat and curves. "Border" is blurred noise with gaussian blur and find edges and levels until I got what I wanted.

Joy - where did you get the rough pastel filter that you mention?

BK, good one, I love it!

I had never heard of that plugin...
I ran a search on Google and found a tutorial that happen to have it as part of the tutorial.
I download it from the tutorial...it's in the tutorial1 zip.
It's an Adobe filter, but it works in PSP, too.
It's named 'Artist', in my PSP list of filters.

Tutorial 1 zip

BK, super version, would make a good advertisment for the Holiday sales.

Bob, lovely simple lines, first class job.

As you see from the title of my picture, I have tried to typify a young person's introduction to make up.

Trying Joy's Rough Pastel and Sandstone. I didn't quite get it right, but a nice soft effect.

Hi Phyllis -

Sorry to take so long in replying - my life has gone a bit crazy lately. I did this a while ago, but I'll do my best at giving you the basics for what I did.

Started by running all the auto's on it. Auto contrast, auto color, auto saturation. Then I manually adjusted hue/saturation/lightness to a setting I liked. Next I ran PSP's Digital Camera Noise Removal filter. Then I did an outline, and did a darken/high contrast of it to create a bright outline. Ran the noise remover on that. Still had a bit more noise than I wanted, so I on a duplicate layer, I smudged the worst areas, and set it to multiply. On a merged copy layer, I did an edge preserving smooth, then an Edge/enhance more. Added a layer of Edge/find all. Not sure of the rest, as the top two layers aren't labeled. Hope this helps.

I did a curves adjustment, hue and saturation. I painted a gold gradient. I painted the lipstick and tube. I softened and did some dodge.

I found this thread after talking with Norma from Colorado. Nice work folks. I will give it a try. I like all the variations and think it was very creative of Norma to abstract it!

I figured if someone was going to give me some free makeup I would use it....like paint :)

I made an abstract background and then cloned it on the original in layers. Textured and finished.
