Well, it isn't the Tour de France; but, just as exciting for these folks. This is a crit in Glens Falls, New York in the pouring rain. Be sure to include some information on the methods you used to artify this rider. :)

Joy, I love the one in color...terrific!

Chuck, Popart is a great choice here... wouldn't have thought so, but you made it work beautifully!

Chuck - Nice work on both images. I like the second better because it does "pop" off the canvas.

Joy_CA - I like your first version best. Awesome colors.

I went a little wild on my interpretation. Wanted to convey a sense of speed and flash. Started out using the Accented Edges tute, then went smudging and blending until I got this result.

Ray, great job distorting the background to emphasize speed!
Mike, wonderful effect ... I like the cropping.

I decided to emphasize the rain.

Glen Falls...

Postby JRolinc » Thu Jul 21, 2005 12:33 pm

Great picture to play with...I've been watching the Tour and, as it stands today, it looks like our good ole Texas boy Lance is going to do it again.

I really like your Pop Art version Chuck
Ray, great distortion
Joy, I really like the vivid colors of your first one as well!!
Mike, interesting crop...I played with doing something like that, but ended up just leaving it, great effects tho.

{edit}
 sorry Phyllis...love the rain, looked just like some of the early days of the Tour de France!!

Paula, I love the technique that you used.
What a great idea, adding another cyclist to make it a real race, as well as cleverly filling in the unbalanced left hand side of the picture.

Best wishes

Hmm... let me go look up my file and see if I can sort out some of the steps.

I did my bright outline layer, and then ran a digital camera noise removal over that. I separated the background from the biker. I made several duplicates of the bright outlines, both of the backgrounds and the biker.

On the background version of the bright outline, one set of motion blur is horizontal to emphasize the speed of the bike. Another is diagonal for the rain.

Layers:
Top, bright outline of biker, set to multiply.
Next, bright outline of biker, set to burn.
Next, bright outline of biker, set to normal.
Next down, bright outline of background, blur horizontal, blend mode multiply.
Next to bottom, bright outline of background, blur diagonal, also with texture, blend mode set to luminance, low opacity, to allow bottom layer to show thru some and darken background of scene.
Bottom, copy of original, normal blend

.

This one was lots of fun!
Partially desaturated background to bring emphasis to rider.
Adjusted skin color.
Boosted uniform and bicycle colors.
Sharpened (especially spokes--to add to the sense of motion.

Every painting/photo should have an edge or frame to help the mind know where to stop looking. *grin*

Boris, really great job on this! =D> Is there some way to post a thumbnail size from your gallery? We normally don't put full size pics in challenges due to download time for some folks. About your framing comment, I only use an outline when my background is white since some of my pbase galleries have white backgrounds, but I can see your point... it really does help contain the image.

Here is another one. This was done in PSP9. First I used One Step Photo Fix and then I ran the "Air Brush and Ink" script. Sorry Phyllis. The devil made me do it.

Hi here's my attempt,
In adobe CS select background and remove colour, then adjust cyclist colour, in curves and saturation, then add new reflection, from original
cyclist, with a bit of ripple.
