One of our members today suggested I should paint this picture. Well, I thought perhaps you'd all like a shot at artifying these sweet birds. Be sure to include some information on the methods you used to achieve your results.

I just noticed that there are two Challenge #416's. Won't this rip a hole in the space-time continuum or something?

LOL! Probably will, so I'll fix the error... thanks for pointing it out. Hope we're not too late! :shaking:

Lyle, cool effect...looks a bit like a crayon drawing.

Mac, they look so soft and fluffy... well done!

Very nice work all!

This is AH, Impressionist bg layer with some splashy brushes over the surface texture.

Pavel, I like this free brushy look. Just one thing... her beak looks kind of fat.

Done in Painter and tweaked in PSCS.

Barb, glad you did post this... love the look! Where did you get that great texture?

Pavel, I like it... looks like a chalk coloring of a pencil outline... very realistic.

I always have been a sucker for Cardinals. Always a nice splash of color in the winter time.

My version is an odd mix of ArtRage and Photoshop. ArtRage for the birds and the branch. A combo of Photoshop and ArtRage for the background.

This was fun to try. I used PSCS, plus Painter, and Image tricks to do it.

I liked how you used Art Rage. Haven't tried it that much, but after seeing your technique on this I am going to give it another try.

hoto Art Challenge 417: Cardinal Pair

Postby PaulJSvBFCM on Thu Jan 18, 2007 4:17 am

Used copy-invert-dodge blend, blur method, then copy merged, find edges, multiply blend, copy merged, then smart blur and blend all, topped by dupe of original, color blend. Copy merged. Color range selections for shadows, midtones and lights filtered via colored pencil, rough pastels and palette knife respectively. Finally, copied original to new channel and used that for lighting effects, soft omni, directional. All in Photoshop 6.01. Resized and saved as jpeg in Irfanview.

Some texture from rough pastels filter and some from lighting effects.

I just love looking at everyone's renditions. The artwork is so inspiring, and very enjoyable to gaze at!

Here's mine:

Photoshop to Painter, using mostly square Chalk, then back to Photoshop for just a few tweaks.

Paul, welcome to the Inn! :howdy:
I just love your shimmery pic... looks like silk embroidery! Verrrry elegant! Thanks for the steps, but I'm not sure about the later ones. I will have to try the "find edges" after doing the basic outline. Always just went straight to muliply mode before, but I like this sharper look!

Terri, what a lovely painting! The soft delicate strokes are perfect for these little birds!
